TYPOGRAPHY and IDENTITY
BIG SHOT
Big Shot Coffee Bar and Lounge was inspired by the music genre Hip-Hop. The typeface “Street” is a custom typeface developed and inspired by the artwork that prevails in the culture of hip-hop. There are four elements that relate to Hip-Hop. The four elements include: DJ (music) Graffiti (art) Breaking (dance) MC (language). Using Adobe Caslon as a foundation to build, Street serves as a display text that incorporates the aesthetics and culture of hip-hop.
SOLUTION
When tuning into hip-hop you will be introduced to a mixture of drum machine beats, rap-rock fusion, minimalistic drum machine beats, hard-hitting guitar solos, aggressive rap style, and influences of punk, jazz, indie rock, and electronic. There is an explosion of experimentation and innovative and creative ideas, which helped inspire the identity of Big Shot Coffee Bar and Lounge.
Spray paint elements, hand-written font family paired with a clean sans serif, dark and vibrant colors were selected in order to convey the essence of hip-hop culture, while remaining contemporary.
